Yeah Graham Linehan was a great comedy writer (past tense because I don't think he's writing more, not that he is a horrible writer now), and even though IT Crowd had some really weird episodes towards the end, it's really interesting to see how much his views shifted (in my biased opinion, for the worse) after the show was done.

For people not in the know, Linehan is nowadays a very outspoken voice against "transgenderism", specifically in regards to trans women, and is quite close to the J.K. Rowling sphere of influence. He seems to have given up a lot to end up where he's now.

Now with IT Crowd, it's fascinating that there are the typical early 2000s trans jokes, what with the trans woman getting into a relationship with Douglas because he misheard her saying "I used to be a man", for "I used to be from Iran", after which Douglas and the trans woman get into a fist fight together. This is the episode "The Speech" that the parent is referring to. It's pulled from circulations over allegations of transphobia, but really this wasn't at all abnormal for the time, and there were lots of shows with jokes that, although maybe less physical, were far more cruel to trans women (trans men of course, never really coming up at all, but that's another story). I remember a tweet that called out Linehan for this episode at the time, and he apologized with genuine understanding, no cruelty behind it. That's not something I could ever imagine him doing now. It's a shame in my opinion, I think IT Crowd is one of the better comedy shows of it's time and I don't know if he'll be able to write it now as he used to, as with any deeply held political belief it does seep into the work itself, sometimes making it better, sometimes ruining it, though I will probably not watch anything Linehan will create in the future, sadly.

Hey us mobile readers want the Femboy Mode Button, too! :(

Are you still having bad issues with Ableton? I did until recently, but now with Ableton in a fairly simple Bottles setup it works quite well (for me, at least).

Do you have more specific needs where the normal way doesn't work? I'm no music producer, so there's lots of stuff I probably don't even know about, would love to hear your thoughts. :)

Could you share the config somehow so I could try it out? Last time I tried to get it to work I couldn't get it to recognize my audio interface (USB class compliant, Steinberg UR44), and the UI was very glitchy.

I don't think I have any special needs compared to others, do fairly basic things. Which version is it that you've tried it with? Tried v11 years ago I think, and v12 when it was just released, but not since then.

I don't know... As someone who many people would characterize as "way too woke", this doesn't really quite ruin Framework for me (though I don't own any of their products).

DHH is certainly an ass, and this is my first time reading about the racist stuff (before this I just found him generally extremely unlikable), but just general association with someone with shitty opinions doesn't fully ruin a project for me. I guess Omarchy is popular nowadays (I'm really not sure why, if someone really knows, please explain), people are going to want to use it on their Framework computers, ergo: Framework has a reason to cooperate with Omarchy developers so their devices work like the customers want them to, and I guess I'm fine with it even if DHH leaves a bad taste in my mouth...

I guess I sort of feel similar in regards to suckless, I don't really like most of their projects, from what I've heard there are some abhorrent people involved, but I wouldn't really put blame on the distro maintainer that packages their projects for their users to use, I guess?

Though, I definitely get why people might feel differently.

Helix is a Vim/Kakoune-inspired modal editor, with a bunch of stuff built in by default. For example it has support for a huge amount of LSPs and intergrates them automatically.

It's command structure is also super similar to Vim's, but, basically, "flipped" around. So you wouldn't write "dw" to delete a word, but "wd". This means that you can see whatever you're selecting to be deleted highlighted before you actually execute the deletion. It has a bunch of saner commands also for stuff people usually want to do, like go to definition/usage, and honestly for people who aren't Vim-addicts such as myself, it's probably a good idea to check it out once, to see if it's a good fit for you.

Evil is so hard to quantify, but I do believe him a sociopath, who's also comically bad at hiding it, in comparison to a lot of other C-Suite people.

I do not really think Peter Thiel fits the "Antichrist" description though, I think the biblical figure is supposed to be quite charismatic and a leader that people love, Thiel's just... not good enough at that...

...maybe just for some tech bros?

The impression I get is that the antichrist gets everyone to follow him by force and fear, rather than by love. They don't worship him because they love him, they worship him because he'll kill them if they don't.

> Evil is so hard to quantify

I would offer to qualify:

Evil

1; to corrupt or pervert the potential of existential being

2; the maiming or mutilating of humanity

3; to willfully destroy the innocent

Yeah, there's always a twinkle of conspiracism that lights up inside me when I see something like that, and I do try to think rationally about it, but I end up coming to the conclusion... that it may not actually be that unlikely!

Naming things is easy: Why not hold a talk about the Antichrist when people have been calling you one? Why not name a single song (or even write one from scratch) to cover up some controversy. Or, of course, why not name a movie "Frozen" when there are rumors about what happened to your founders body.

I feel like the PR benefit, even if maybe intangible or purely hypothetical, is so easy to justify given the low amount of effort involved in it.

Though I do think it's rather gauche to hold a public talk about the Antichrist in Thiels situation, I think that doesn't really dispell the rumors, it just brings him and the topic closer together? No? Maybe he's just trying to tell us something. :)

I'm not saying he's trying to deflect accusations of being the Antichrist

The actual PR issue is that his interest in the Antichrist highlighted his adoration of Carl Schmitt, a Nazi philosopher and jurist who was responsible for enshrining Führerprinzip as German law

Yeah, the Figma desktop version is basically just a wrapper. It's okay but not super useful.

Thought this was about Xenia for a moment... :)

I think it's also important to note that Near identified as non-binary. This isn't just a "respect their pronouns!" type of thing, but an important aspect of the KiwiFarms propensity to target trans and queer people.

Notably this also isn't the only suicide attributed to the forum, another trans woman by the name of Chloe Sagal also was harassed by them into suicide in 2018, alongside a Canadian woman named Julie Terryberry in 2016.

The forum takes credit for this (though of course, not officially by the admins), with it being basically an explicit goal. I believe they also had a "kill counter" in a thread to count the people they brought to kill themselves. And the fact that they love targeting trans people, autistic people, and basically everyone who's different is a big part of the whole culture they've build.

Note that I prefer to not expose myself to that, so I invite other people to add info or refute something I said.
