My dishwasher sends the water into the waste disposal built into the sink. If the waste disposal has a lot of food that hasn't been grinded it up, it seems to slow the draining of the dishwasher so not all the food gets drained before the rinse cycle. So I learned to run the waste disposal for a couple seconds before starting a dishwashing load.

I feel like this is a beginning of a movie where a terrible bacteria gets frozen for 40,000 years and then someone puts it into a martini and it causes a worldwide outbreak.

isn't that basically what Apple did by using algorithms to scan for CSAM material. Even with the level of trust that Apple has, people weren't ok with this.

Can you explain the mistake that turbox tax makes? I'm wondering if I did mine wrong too

On form 1040, under “IRA distributions - taxable amount” (box 4b), TurboTax filled in the amount of my IRA conversion. It should have been left blank.

This caused my taxable income to be increased by the amount of the conversion. Not good. My biggest mistake was not being more diligent about looking over form 1040. I feel like it should have been a pretty obvious error.

I despise that “minor clerical error in massively complex tax system with multiple forms causes significant money losing tax implications for your average end user” is even a thing in the first place.

The IRS has actually caught some that I've made, the only time they've ever complained to me has been to send me a larger check. First they send you a scary looking notice that they detected a discrepancy, and you have to agree, but each time it was an error that when fixed improved my refund.

I mean, I obviously agree that the complication in the US tax system is crazy, and also think that every country should do what the UK does in allowing PAYE income taxation (Pay As You Earn - most people in standard jobs have their company take the correct amount of tax from each salary payment and pass it direct to the government, the employee then doesn't even have to file taxes at the end of the year unless they have special circumstances).

But in this specific case of "minor error [...] leads to significant money losing tax implications" - it is really an error that would be possible in absolutely any "fill in your tax info situation", since the mistake they made was writing the wrong number into a "taxable income" field. That mistake can still be made even in a country whose tax system is as simple as "everyone pays X% of their income as tax, and fills in a one-field form where the only question is "what was your income for the year?". (But yeah, a simpler system would mean less opportunity for making simple mistakes, and easier to check if any have been made, for sure.)

I think you just made the point for me, if you have a system like PAYE there’s no room for minor clerical errors for the vast majority of people since there is no opportunity to even make the clerical error in the first place. You just look at the taxes and verify they are right and off to the races. This is how most civilized nations work, except the USA

This mistake was a consequence of the complicated tax system. It involved a complex maneuver (the backdoor Roth) that TurboTax supports but has a bad UX for. Presumably a less complicated tax system would eliminate these kinds of complex maneuvers

Practically speaking, homeschooling will usually require one parent stay at home. That isn't a luxury that a lot of families have and will tend to be higher income families which usually goes with higher educated parents. Higher educated parents tend to have value education so I don't think there's a risk for them to get a poor education.

The most non sequitur.

You got any of them datas to back up those claims?

Or did you get that from the school home.

Oof

Wasn't one of Amazons Seattle building an old morgue?

I've done this too at many FANG companies. I've put too many expectations on myself. And at other times I've managed my own work-life balance. It's possible but it takes some foresight to set it up.

where does data get synced to?

It doesn't get synced anywhere - "cross-browser" in this case means that the extension works in multiple different browsers, but you still have to manually export/import sessions between them.

thanks for the clarification, what an awful workflow

I'm using at least 4-5 browsers a day, can't imagine having to take manual steps between those.

Looks like the extension uses idb which is a wrapper around IndexedDB.

Did not check if there is any sync to the outside world though.

2: https://www.npmjs.com/package/idb

I think the question is regarding how it syncs across browsers (FF & chrome). I don't understand how this is possible for an extension, without some remote storage

Maybe something like a distributed DB where each different browser is a DB to sync with the other Browsers/Db’s ? I know this can be achievable with Tauri (a standalone app) and gunjs in a relatively straightforward way

This year, I found https://f3nation.com/ and it's been great. Very welcoming group of men and these group of men are each others support group. Many of them seem to have known each other for years. It's free so more approachable than some expensive gyms. The one I go to in Puget Sound also has a bunch of their kids show up and I've started to bring my 11 year old. For some of you that might be turned off by the part that might look religious, at least in my area, nothing seems religious but I'm told that's different in other parts of the country.

I usually ask for no ice. You get more beverage that way too.

yup, although with sugar drinks i eventually realized that getting them with ice meant i'd dilute the drink and consume less sugar. tough choices...

Also a colder drink burns more calories heating it up to body temp...

They got wise to that in my region. Drink dispensers are automated and you get the same quantity of drink with or without ice.
