The specs are insane but it would be better if Tesla focuses on getting its mass market car out in the market, in the hands of consumers.

It would be good to do a similar analysis of the Indian government.

Indian Govt is totally inefficient. It is impossible as there are too many states, too many languages, too many view points and first of all, it is not even needed. Political parties (Be it state level or central) have enough money, machinery to throw dirt on each other through every kind of media. Coupled with the age old methods of vote buying, throwing freebies or use of religion/region/language/caste "cards" always work !

I wouldn't add another HTTP layer for a functionality that is within my own app / network, unless I were to expose this as a service for outside the network as a service.

I would think that this is bad design - call a http service that wraps smtp, when pretty much every language has an SMTP client.

What a BS of an article. Expected to read about Wall street trying to compete for talent. Got a promo for hacker-rank instead.

Come up with something better than link bait guys.

Freemium is the new shareware

The silicon valley culture where every VC demands an introduction sucks. I concur.

Why does someone need 5000 servers for 1 billion hits? Even at 20X the suggested traffic it seems to be extremely over provisioned and under optimized.

From the blog:

We realise that the shopping experience for many of you was frustrating due to errors and unavailability of the website at times. We had deployed nearly 5000 servers and had prepared for 20 times the traffic growth – but the volume of traffic at different times of the day was much higher than this. We are continuing to significantly scale up all our back end systems so that we do a much, much better job next time.

I dropped dropbox because Condoleezza Rice is a war criminal.

I see something that looks like a flying object in the horizon and I think that it has something to do with dust on the lens of curiosity rover's camera.

Easy to check that one off: compare two photos taken a few seconds/minutes apart and see if the dust particle shows up.
