A lot of our intuitions about both are based on obscurity: nobody is interested enough to devote their lives to you. That's not the case any more. You are exposed to every person on the planet, and they have the tools to automate attacks on every single person.
That's not to say "give up", but we need to find a new understanding of how our lives work. It's like we're all hunter-gatherers who find ourselves instantly in the largest and fastest city, with nobody to teach us the ropes.
I don't entirely understand where that comes from. The Standard Model and General Relativity are both tested to extreme precision. Any experiment unifying them will have to involve insane energies. It's not as if there is some other model with easy tests that we've agreed to ignore.
As far as I can tell, it seems to come from the developers of Loop Quantum Gravity, who feel left out of funding. And maybe that's true. But their theory doesn't offer practical tests, either. It would be weird if it did.

Like another commenter posted, the planck scale is 10^19 GeV and we're about 10^15 short. Therefore it follows we won't be testing anything at planck scale for many generations, if ever. Therefore the argument of "I can't test it therefore the theory is useless" is just being defeatist. The fact that such theory isn't testable might be a feature of our Universe, not the theory. As in, these people don't normally make the distinction between something that "could be tested in principle, we just don't have the technology" (like string theory) vs something that "couldn't be tested even in principle" (like how many angels can dance on the head of a pin). They're basically playing with semantics when they say "it's not testable".

Again, correct on all points. However, I'll add the following. Yes, LQG makes as many directly-testable predictions at the planck scale as string theory, which is to say none, because we don't have the technology to test anything directly at that scale.
I keep repeating these things on HNs, but people here fundamentally don't understand how research in theoretical physics is done. I'll try a little exposition:
Physics is: make experiments, and try to infer which laws/rules/formulas are common to all experiments or sets of similar experiments, and their domain of applicability. These are called theories.
Theoretical physics is: think about theories, and try to observe which laws/rules/formulas are common to all theories or sets of similar theories, and their domain of applicability. These are more general theories from which your directly-experimented theories can be derived. You can keep interacting constructing ever more general theories from an ever smaller set of principles.
So a lot of theoretical physics is about arguing which of the principles that you know are true because you've experimentally tested them will hold in circumstances where you can't directly test. As it turns out there's a lot that you can infer about things you've never seem because often times mathematics puts constraints on how different ideas work together.
The string theory/LQG thing is that LQG start from the guess that Lorentz invariance doesn't hold at planck scale. The reason why LQG is less appealing to a lot of physicists is that if you follow this through you can never quite make it mathematically self consistent. In string theory what happens in certain sub-domains is that you start with a lot of arbitrary possibilities, but then you demand certain types of mathematical self-consistency and magically it points out that there's only one or a small number possibilities. A classic example is: "how many dimensions does the universe has?" which no theory really gives as answer, but string theory at least points in a direction: "if you assume such and such, the the allowed answers are such and such". This happens a lot in string theory, and it's what drives people to keep digging. String theory on the other hand concludes that Lorentz invariance must hold at all scales "in some string-like theories" if you demand cancellation of divergences, which you must have for your theory to be renormalizable and therefore mathematically self-consistence. So in a sense this is a prediction of string theory. Not that LQG doesn't predict the opposite, that Lorentz invariance doesn't hold. Instead it assumes that it doesn't. String theory instead predicts that it does. The latter is much more impressive; anybody can start from an arbitrarily picked assumption that noone can prove wrong.
TFA was written in October. Since then, there has been a (rather ugly) ceasefire.
So it is no longer the worst time to release such a report. We are now stuck reconciling ourselves to a situation where both sides behaved atrociously -- literally, committing atrocities.
Issuing the report will not materially shift history's judgment one way or the other. But it might help Amnesty's reputation as being able to fight for justice no matter who the victim is.

I'm sure you're right that reconstructions of painted statues are inaccurate. But I'm not sure that a good-looking reconstruction would be any more authentic. Cultural tastes vary a lot. I suspect that if we ever do get enough data for a valid reconstruction, I won't like it any better.

Perspective wasn't developed! The Greeks and Romans used it just fine, for example.
What was lost was artistic training because there wasn't sufficient economic market for it. As soon as you got sufficient economic incentive, art magically improves again. This is stunningly obvious if you look at Athens and then Pompeii and then Rome and then the Vatican (with the attendant backslide until the Renaissance as you note).

I don't see it being destroyed. I mean the market for art. That's a market for tangible things made by specific humans, pieces that are unique.
Very hard to see how AI will affect that since the market is dominated to large extent by the need by the art salespeople, art institutions, and art collectors to sustain prestige and investment value.
If it just about volume, China would have destroyed it decades ago. Clearly adding even more volume will hardly put a dent to it.

The Federalist Papers is not "the founders". It's Alexander Hamilton and James Madison. There were numerous factions running around the Constitutional Convention, and they negotiated the final document together.
I don't understand why the Federalist Papers gets cited as if it were part of the Constitution. It is not a definitive source of anything except the opinion of those two (three, with Jay) men.
The Federalist Papers reflects the views of the majority faction of those who wrote the constitution. You can get the minority opinion in the Anti-Federalist papers.
But find me any contemporaneous document that suggests the framers thought power should be exercise by unelected bureaucrats insulated from oversight by elected officials.

The quote really needs the first two lines:

The verb in the sentence is "is made", not just "is". "Now" it is summer, not winter. They were discontent in the past. Now they are happy.
York (Richard's brother, Edward, now King Edward IV) has overthrown King Henry VI. There's also an important pun: "York" also refers to their father, also named Richard, who was the Duke of York until his death at the hands of Henry's faction. So Edward is also the "son of York".
That said, Richard is being sarcastic. He's plotting the next political overthrow, which will also be successful. And who will in turn be overthrown again. That, at least, will put an end to it, if for no other reason than that literally everybody else is dead.
One of my most important jobs as a Shakespeare actor is to find ways to enunciate some of his over-long sentences in a way that allows the audience to follow them just by listening.
In this case, it's not too hard. Shakespeare likes giving you oppositions, like "winter" and "summer". Put the stress there, and the audience will follow. And you don't need to breathe at the end of the line; it can flow directly into the next one.
Unlikely, since our labor costs are still considerably higher than elsewhere. For a very long time our economy has rested on developing high margin products and letting others do the low-marginal-overhead of making it. We assumed that they were not going to catch up to us as innovators.
