I've been using clickhouse-local (the CLI tool, not the database) a lot recently to do data analysis work. It's simpler/better developer experience when using local files for quick data analysis compared to writing python scripts. As someone who does a lot of data science and is not a software engineer, it feels more natural to write SQL vs. having to write actual code–and it's super fast...
After you create an account or click "continue without an account", all errors/crash reporting can be turned off from the Settings page. In the future, we'll add an option to turn this off in the initial page.
I get it though… I don’t really want my database access tracked either. Maybe it would be better to include this as part of the account creation process. At least then you can tell the user what you're collecting and why.
We started building the app about two years ago where these frameworks were a lot less mature (and I still think Electron is the most battle-tested today). If we were to start over, I'd definitely consider Tauri or using Rust directly for a lot of the app. I suspect over time we'll slowly transition parts of the app to more native code.
Hi Micah, thanks for the feedback! We had a particularly nasty memory leak for some Mac users about two months ago (likely when you used it) but that's now since been fixed. I appreciate you giving us a try!
Postico is amazing! I'm glad to see a new version come out.
The one major thing that's missing is that it doesn't support collaboration features (to share queries, manage access across your team, etc). If you need that functionality and want a more Superhuman/Linear-style modern UI with lots of keyboard shortcuts, I suggest you try Arctype (https://arctype.com). Disclosure: I'm a founder. It supports not just Postgres but also MySQL, SQLite, PlanetScale, Yugabyte, etc.
We're trying to re-imagine popular SQL clients (phpMyAdmin, MySQL Workbench) to have the design and software quality of modern tools like Superhuman, Linear, etc. We make it very easy to query and create charts from your database then share it with your team.
We currently support MySQL, Postgres, PlanetScale, Yugabyte, and in the next couple of weeks SQLite and ClickHouse.
We're huge fans of TablePlus but Arctype is free (all features) for most developers. We charge a low price for teams/startups above 10 users in a typical SaaS model. TablePlus is a great piece of software but it charges $79 for individuals (one year of updates) to unlock all features such as having multiple tabs. We're also focused a lot more on visualization and collaboration.
it's great native SQL client since pgAdmin went all browser based, and I like that it supports multiple SQL DBs with more support in the future as well
