More like the lack of natural fuel that Europe is willing or able to use for itself.
Noticeable exception includes Norway with their gas fields, but it's not like Germany has huge swaths of oil ready to be used. Germany does have substantial coal, but it's been decreasing its use of it in exchange for alternatives it doesn't own the fuel for.
In other words, Europe pays more for energy because they have to import it. Importing it isn't factoring "externalities", as the extra money isn't going to anything except Russia or OPEC.
Don't they use machinery to carry the windows? Even double pane gets heavy. The windows of the sliding doors I've recently got replaced were like 200kg each.
Not here in the Netherlands. By law anything heavier than 23kg should be carried by a machine. In principle one can carry something heavier, but then there needs to be a written plan etc.
It's very common to carry stuff with a small crane. If it needs to be carried to thd back of the house which is not accessible, they set up a bigger crane.
I bet y'all have comprehensive workers compensation coverage and good healthcare too. Half the contractors around here lie about carrying a personal injury policy and several I've worked for had a standing policy where if you fell off a roof, scaffold, or ladder it was understood that you were fired before you hit the ground.
Thanks for playing! No immediate plans to paywall the game, but we do eventually want to make money from it in some capacity.

Edit: dang suggested we should add more about the link to our startup, so here's more if anyone's interested:
Originally, we were making an AI video creator tool with a focus on character consistency in long videos (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39853474). A year ago, character consistency was a big problem and we developed a solution for it in AI videos. Now though, a lot of other AI video creator tools have come out, and 1) character consistency has been solved in other ways 2) the other tools just make better quality videos than ours.
So we decided to pivot from building video creator tools to building apps with AI video as the core format. When I say that we plan to sell apps like Time Portal, it's still pretty open ended. First, we just want to build an app/apps that people really like using for free and figure out the best way to monetize them later. Time Portal is not for sale right now. It's free to play on the web and there is a free app in the App Store.
I think it is fair to see that there has been a lot more extraordinary noise in the economy (COVID, money printing, interest rates escalating at historically fast rates, etc), such that their models might not be as effective as more normal times.
I concur. It seems like the US would be more peaceful if the various regions could separate and enjoy their values independently without fear of the other side’s values being imposed upon them. Create a market and people can live where they choose based on their values. It seems (from a Canadian’s perspective) like 99% of the problems are due to one side imposing its values on the other side, with a wide gulf in values between them. It is very zero sum.
> I asked Prof Peter Etchells, an expert on the psychological effects of digital technology at Bath Spa University if this could be plausible. "To the best of my knowledge," he says, "There isn't any good science to support the idea that short videos are specifically or uniquely bad in terms of effects on the brain."
That's an awfully careful definition, though ("specifically or uniquely bad".) The article does report how researchers found brain differences in those most "addicted" to short-form content. Correlation vs. Causation of course. Gambling addicts also show brain structure correlations (https://www.apa.org/monitor/2023/07/how-gambling-affects-the...), so I don't think this is a surprising result.
Author here: No, not really. It uses AdGuard lists, SafariConverterLib by AdGuard for converting filter lists to Safari content blocking format. The only difference is that WebShield works on iOS, iPadOS, visionOS, and macOS as one app & codebase (AdGuard has separate apps for Safari on macOS & iOS), and its completely free & open source, albeit I accept donations, but nothing is behind a paywall, and will never be behind a paywall. I'd rather just stop developing than sell out to ad companies (acceptable ads) or put things behind a paywall.
