Pretty much all online games have community-run websites like this and it's been tradition for over a decade. It's legally murky of course but I'm not aware of developers doing something like this very often, and in some cases the developer will actually help the community - ArenaNet provides hosting for the Guild Wars community's wiki, for example.
IANAL but it seems like it would also be an interesting legal question as to how much of this sort of thing is fair use - you can't copyright a phone book for example, and it's not as if publishing raw numbers from a game's systems like drop rates or dice roll chances is that different.
