Show HN: I built an app that texts you Nietzsche daily (dailynietzschesignup.wordpress.com)

Hi everyone,

I made an app that texts you one line from Nietzsche's "Twilight of the Idols" a day. I made it because I read the book, and thought that it would be cool to be able to really chew on what Nietzsche is saying line by line. Also, there's an integrated discussion subreddit that will take your text responses, so you can write what you think and see what other people say!

Nice work,

Any plans to tackle any other Nietzsche works in the future?

Twilight of the Idols is particularly full of short, punchy sentences, although I might try out other books like the tao te ching or Napoleon’s diary!

I’m listening to Thus Spoke Zarathustra currently and I need to pause every 2 minutes because of the same reasons; constant profoundly deep short locutions

So I’m guessing many of his works are like this? I wish I would have started reading him earlier.

Yeah, if Nietzsche writes a sentence odds are it’s going to make you put down the book and take a walk to think about it, hence the app

The desktop calendar is back!

Interesting. Why phone number? What with data harvesting being a hot topic, I'm hesitant to give that out. Perhaps a second option like email or push notifications via an app would be good too.

I'm also curious how your sending these texts. Is there a service you are using for that? I've had ideas before that would require a similar system

Good point with texts, a daily email would probably be a good option as well.

I’m using Twilio for the texting, really good infrastructure on it and cheap

it's ok we already have your phone number
