Unhinged.. Deranged.. OK so I get Theil was opposed to 80s and 90s campus political culture but.. could you get some distance from that view? I have friends I don't agree with politically and if you agree with him philosophically about the merits of his views, that's fine but you write as if this is his received wisdom: it's one side of a giant polemical gap. That could be acknowledged or your own alignment made plainer.

There are other points of view of the time. "I beseech you, in the bowels of christ, consider that you are wrong" basically.

I've read biography which suggests Theil was bullied at university for his difference. And, a lot of his discourse since is driven in "I'll show them" resentments. He achieved a lot. He has nothing to "prove" to anyone. His political philosophy appals me. He uses his wealth in asocial ways, and is distorting national economics, and political discourse, in ways which appal me.

Increasingly on HN if there is a conservative post, all the comments are basically saying "Yeah!". I'm a conservative myself, but I like to see a little pushback -- to show that we're all still in a conversation. So thanks for your comment.

These observations should be obvious to many. Although I rarely see them articulated. Bang on.

Not the most challenging interviewer.
