"Sick Man of Europe" implies that every other country in Europe is doing well.
That's not the case. Germany has historically been the main engine of Europe. It's been the main source of subsidies to the rest of Europe and the main source of export income to Europe. If the 'main engine' is sick, the whole of Europe is sick.
Maybe this is a good thing when the brain drain from the South to North slows, stops, or perhaps even gets reversed?
