European nuclear plants put out of work by green power surge (japantimes.co.jp)

I wonder why they put the development in a negative tone. Scrapping fossil power plants is an important step to reduce CO2 emission, for the sake of the whole mankind.

I believe nuclear power plants as base load supply will still go for a long time.

The problem is that most of the reactors are so old that many critical parts are starting to get brittle due of the radiation. Replacements, if they can be replaced, are sometimes faked. another problem is the cooling of maby reactors that are using rivers for the required water supply and those are drying out and get warmer, so the production of power is problematic in the summer, since there is an non-zero chance that the waterlevel is below of the absolute minimum the powerplamt requires.
