Well gaming has been around for a while and some of those gamers are now paying their kids' electricity bills.

However, that's not what makes me care about energy efficiency. It's the fucking cooling noise.

I was probably around 25 when I realized that 30 fps is good enough and if i stick a passive huge ass radiator on a GPU that can do just that I'll be able to hear the game's soundtrack even on very low volume and without using headphones...

Stick a few decent quality 800 rpm fans on that huge ass radiator and suddenly you can hear the soundtrack and get 120fps. Chasing full passive cooling is futile.

Anyway I'm pretty obsessed with low noise on my gaming PC but with the right part selection and a conservative fan curve you don't have to compromise on performance to get it.

I mean, anyone who cares about energy use, noise and more general gaming playing experience should get a console, if their circumstances allow it. Gaming laptop is a lot of compromise.

The only reasons to get a gaming laptop is that you are space constrained or need to travel, while the only reasons to get a gaming PC is to get the best possible performance and/or build/upgrade your hardware.

If noise is a big issue, Mac is not a solution, because you don't have so many available games to begin with. Consoles like Xbox Series X are extremely quiet these days (at reasonable powe consumption -- <200W), while on a well-built gaming PC you can choose whatever solution you want to lower heat and fan noise.

:)

I have a playstation 5 and i snagged a ps4 disc of cyberpunk 2077 from the bargain bin for next to nothing when it was the scandal of the day that it didn't really work on consoles.

CDProjekt Red being CDProjekt red, that gets me a full free upgrade to whatever the current version of the game is on ps5.

Damned if i'm playing that game without a mouse though. Unless they dumbed down the inventory to the point it's usable with the sticks since the last time i played.

Some games have "console dna". I wouldn't go near the PC version of Elden Ring or Death Stranding. But some have "pc dna". I don't think I want to try to play cyberpunk on a console. Not any of the acceptable to brilliant indies I bought, most of which aren't available on consoles.

Let's put it this way:

I'm going to play the games i please on the hardware i please to play them on. I will not build or buy a bling box that hovers above the ground from all the fans to be able to get 1400 fps at 12k resolution just so I can brag on Twitch.

> I wouldn't go near the PC version of Elden Ring

What's wrong with the PC version of Elden Ring? Of course it needs to be played with a controller but that's hardly a problem.

> will not build or buy a bling box that hovers above the ground from all the fans

My gaming PC is near silent and I don’t have to nerf my performance to get there.

> 1400 fps at 12k resolution just so I can brag on Twitch

Yes because everyone who doesn’t want to entertain a 30fps slideshow obviously does so only for twitch bragging rights. You’ve cracked the secret gamer code Neo.

> is near silent

From the fps lovers, that usually means "I can't hear the fans because I use full over ear headphones" :)

It means I made calculated purchasing decisions for fans and case.

Ultra low noise fans from Noctua and the Define R5.

I use the open backed AKG K712 Pros :)

> I'm going to play the games i please on the hardware i please to play them on.

Of course, but that doesn't mean it's useful to complain about that hardware. If you made a choice, stick to it and accept all the limitations/disadvantages instead of whining about it.

Elden Ring runs fine on PC.

Sorry, but if 30 fps is good enough for you, either you are only playing slow games or we have no agreement. I can play at 30 fps but I much prefer around 100.

Also your case airflow might suck. Bigger heatsink won't solve that.

Well, if you're into multiplayer only or multiplayer first competitive ... things ... I've given up on those about when Starcraft 2 was new.

I suppose 240 fps helps in Battlefield of Honor of Destiny.
