- The US had an estimated 12.6 road fatalities per billion vehicle miles travelled in 2023 [2]

Oh, huh, that's actually a bigger discrepancy than the stats I was looking at (from 2022 for the UK and 2021 for the US, from wikipedia). Looks like the UK is down modestly since then, the US up modestly.
