Because it mentions Walmart: "Walmart’s full-time employees number remained relatively constant for the last 10 years". Would revenue / person-hour show a different trend? Because there are a lot of part-time and contract workers out there.

Excellent point— contractor and consultant headcount’s have ballooned at many firms. Lots of technical debt being taken on to make short term profits.
